For years, consumers have relied upon the North American Car & Truck/Utility of the Year awards to find the best models for each model year. The recognition is awarded by votes from 53 automotive journalists in the United States and Canada. So, what car was the 2016 car of the year?
Honda Civic Named 2016 North American Car of the Year
When all votes were tallied, the 2016 Honda Civic was awarded the recognition of being the 2016 North American Car of the Year (Volvo XC90 named Truck/Utility of the Year). Voting for the top three models came out as such:
- Honda Civic – 203 votes
- Chevy Malibu – 181 votes
- Mazda MX-5 Miata – 146 votes
Honda’s Civic compact sedan is capable of up to an impressive 42 mpg highway and comes equipped with a standard 158-horsepower engine or available 174-horsepower engine. Perhaps most impressive is that this isn’t the first time the Civic has been named the Car of the Year, as it also earned the recognition in 2006.
