What can I do in Indianapolis During Labor Day Weekend 2016?

Labor Day Weekend is usually considered to be the conclusion of the summer season. Even though one of our favorite seasons is coming to an end, it doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate! And after buying all of those new notebooks and clothes, we would definitely enjoy not having to pay an arm and a leg to have one final hurrah before school starts. Luckily, Indianapolis has lots of inexpensive and fun events happening over Labor Day Weekend!
Indy LaborFest
Where: Georgia Street, Downtown Indianapolis
When: 11:00am-6:00pm on September 3
Hosted by the Central Indiana Labor Council and iHeart Media, this event is fun for the whole family! As far as we know, the weather forecast is supposed to be perfect, so come and listen to awesome music by the Yacht Rock Revue, eat delicious food, and let your children play in the kids’ zone! There will also be a beer garden on site. Additionally, you can learn about career opportunities in Central Indiana at this free street festival! More information can be found here.
Indiana State Museum
Where: 650 W Washington Street, Indianapolis
Typical Hours: 10:00am-5:00pm Mon-Sat, 11:00am-5:00pm Sun, Closed on Holidays
We love the Indiana State Museum, and not only because it is located on the same street as Joe’s Auto Sales (the museum is about three miles east from us)! There are always interesting artifacts to check out, but the museum currently has two temporary exhibits that commemorate Indy’s bicentennial! These exhibits are “Indiana in 200 Objects” and “200 Years of Indiana Art: A Cultural Legacy.” To learn more about these exhibits, please visit the museum’s website.
NHRA Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals
Where: Lucas Oil Raceway, 10267 E. U.S. Highway 136, Indianapolis
When: August 31-September
Renowned as the racing capital of the world, Indy is not only home to the Indianapolis 500, but to the National Hot Rod Association’s Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals drag race as well! Since this is the final competition of the regular 18-race season, it is the biggest and most prestigious. Not only that, winning this race truly makes the driver a champion!
